Our senior men had visitors from Winchester for a Friendly âspiel here last week. The three teams were Andy Patenaude, Al Harriman, Paul Dobry, and Kent Dawley, Don McMillan, Neil Williams, Larry Ware and Jim Adams, as well as Sid Morrell, Rick MacKenzie, Maurice Kolff and John Gove. Sidâs team came up against a very good quartet and dropped a close one, but our other foursomes emerged victorious, All enjoyed a very good lunch, a few stories, and a promise to return to Winchester on the 23rd for a rematch.
Last Wednesday three teams of senior men were in Prescott for âfriendlyâ competition. Our fellows were very friendly, dropping all three matches. John Allison, Doug Jarvis, Pete Byvelds and Bill Simmonds, Sam Locke, Dave King, Ron Brinston and Lyn Loucks, as well as Sid Morrell, Rick MacKenzie, Moe Kolff and John Gove were the teams of record. However, our fellows still said it was a very pleasant day.
One of our mixed teams attended Navanâs 222 bonspiel recently. Keith Robinson, Alice Thompson, Fred âBoomerâ Langlotz and Nelda Hickman entered. Navan had trouble filling the sheets at their bonspiel and had to put in two local teams. Unfortunately they were very very good. Our folks played them and lost the first match. After a tasty lunch, with special attention to their lemon meringue pie, our curlers played the other local foursome and came close, but dropped that one as well, 4-2.
Greta McGann was in Manotick recently in an OLC competition. She had her regular competitive team with her: Joan McKinnon, Kathy Killick and Penny Charlebois. This was another Ladiesâ Curling Association competition, with top-notch groups entered. Our ladies won their first match against a team from Metcalfe, and tied their second one, against Granite. Ties are not allowed, so they threw skipsâ stones to the button. The Granite rock was a bit closer, so that ended Morrisburgâs competition.
Last Saturday Greta and Kathy Killick, Linda Murphy and Mary Campbell competed in Prescottâs ladiesâ invitational bonspiel. They defeated a team from Manotick, had a tasty lunch and returned to the ice to vanquish a foursome from Russell. With top points on the day, they finished first overall in the competition.
Recently Susan McIntosh hosted her last two-person bonspiel of the season. We thank Susan for organizing these and for taking the time and effort to pull them off. She reports that there were two new folks involved, and they did very well. Susan thanks all the curlers for their great participation and for providing a delicious pot luck luncheon. As always, there were three divisions. In âCâ, John Gove and Pete Zeran defeated Linda Murphy and Gail Lafreniere, in the âBâ division, Jay MacGilvray and Donna MacTrumble won out over Crystal and Craig Belanger, and in âAâ division, the battle of the undefeated teams, Don McMillan and Keith Robinson beat Denis Thibeault and Glen Cougler. Another great day, Susan!
