The senior men finished their third draw last week, and the champions were Jack Barkley, Len Bellamy, Chuck Irvine and Ron Brinston. In addition, our Tuesday night men finished their first draw of the season, and the winners were Larry Cooper, Al Harriman, Shawn Lapier and Rick Astley. Congratulations to both of these fine teams.
On Thursday last week, Greta McGann took a team to Prescott for their annual Robbie Burns competition. As usual, the ladies were piped out onto the ice, most of them dressed in kilts. With Greta were Alice Thompson, Janie Connelly, and Gay Lapp. They lost both matches, to Granite and Brockville, the last by only one point, with Kingston the overall champion on the day. The food was ample, tasty, and enjoyed by all, even though no haggis was served.
Last Saturday the club had a special bonspiel to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary. Jack Barkley and his committee organized the event and were able to draw competitors from frequent provincial level curlers, the Ottawa Hunt Club, and top regional and local teams. There were some hard-fought matches and some surprises as well. We thank those who helped the event run so smoothly, with special appreciation to Sue and Dave McIntosh, who provided us with an exceptional meal of pulled pork, followed by tasty desserts.
