As usual, our board of directors were busy over the summer months, while the rest of us were dreaming of great games we were going to play in the new season. Over this summer, the executive called a general meeting, and explained their suggestions. Wally would update the website, they would replace the chiller, the receiver and the brine pump, install a nite-setback system to save on hydro costs, rewire and re-pipe the new equipment, and re-arrange the equipment room to allow better access for maintenance.

With membership approval, our executive spent a good amount of money to complete the tasks. Our club has been able to afford the total cost, and the improvements will last for a generation. Our thanks to those who made this possible, and to our hard-working executive members for all they do on the club’s behalf.

Members, and others who follow news about the club may wish to check Rick MacKenzie’s site at morrisburgcurling.ca. You may also look over the club’s site on facebook.

Each year we lose a few curlers, and our condolences to the family of George Rutley,Ian McGillis, Dwight Gilmour and Erik Orgee. A few others are not feeling the best, and we wish them well, hoping to see them back at the club soon. We also welcome our new members.

Our organization is run by volunteers, and we continue to need them. For instance, the Wilson family has had to cut back on its efforts with young curlers. They will continue with the bantams and juniors, but help is needed for the little rockers. Our thanks to other coordinators, Jack Barkley for the men, Dave King for the senior men, Alice Thompson for the day ladies, Susan McIntosh for the Wednesday night ladies, Sharon Van Allen for the daytime mixed league, Ian Wilson for the Thursday night curlers, and Mahlon Locke for the Friday nighters. The Monday night novice curling continues this year, looked after now by Kathy Norg. Those interested should check with them. Most leagues could us a few new members, and spares for any league are always welcome.

League play has begun, and bonspiels are again on the horizon. Susan McIntosh’s first two-person spiel is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 8, so sign up if interested. Our December invitational bonspiel for the ladies will be held in December, and several men’s and women’s teams will be competing outside the club shortly, some curlers even today, Wednesday. The four-club Parnell competition is upcoming, for example.

Hopefully all curlers will look at opportunities to compete with members from other clubs, for the pleasure of those games, and as an opportunity to measure our skills against them. We’ll have the results as soon as they become available. Please keep us informed about your results.

That’s it for now. Good curling to all!
