Recently Sue McIntosh held her last 2-person charity bonspiel for the year. It was a full-day event, culminating in the championship final. In “C” division, Anjo Norg and Kelly Friedrich defeated Shawn and Lila Lapierre, “B” saw Keith Robinson and Fred “Boomer” Langlois victorious over Rick MacKenzie and Dave King, while the “A” winners were Catherine and Ian Wilson, triumphing over their son Ewan and grandfather John. It was another great day for all, and we thank Susan McIntosh for the time and effort she puts into these days on behalf of the club and of the curlers who enjoy these  competitions.

Susan McIntosh, Wendy Casselman, Joanne Baker and Claire Locke were in the early draw in a Russell bonspiel some time back, playing well, but losing both of their games. Alice Thompson, Betty Locke, Kelly Friedrich and Cindy Paice were in the late draw, losing to Carleton Heights, enjoying a delicious lunch, and back to the ice for an afternoon match against Metcalfe. In spite of their losses, our curlers went home happy, with the evening entertainment and the catering by the men as a prelude to the closing banquet.

Jack Barkley competed for the right to take our one team to Lancaster for their hosting of the Parnell competition. With him were Dave King, Doug Jarvis and Rick MacKenzie. The fellows played well, but lost their first match to a Cornwall team, had a tasty lunch, and then returned to the ice to face the eventual champions from Prescott. After congratulations to the winners, the men returned to Morrisburg, looking for new challenges.

Two of our teams accepted the challenge of hosting the Sullivan Cup here last Wednesday. Each of the other clubs, Russell, Winchester and Metcalfe, also entered two teams. The senior men played two six-end matches, interrupted by a delicious turkey dinner. Our representatives were Jack Barkley, Dave King, Doug Jarvis and Rick MacKenzie, and Pete Zeran, Don McMillan, Moe Kolff and John Gove. Jack won his first match, while Pete tied his, but lost on a draw to the button by the two skips. After the business meeting, ably emceed by Dave King, Winchester and Metcalfe met in the “A” final, while Russell and the other Metcalfe foursome met for the “B” championship. Winchester went down to defeat in the “A” title match, while Russell took the “B” title. Our thanks to the kitchen staff, the bartenders, our superior ice technician, Wally Baker, and Dave King and Sid Morrell who organized a very successful day.
