Our senior men look forward to the second Parnell competition, to be held in Cornwall on Friday, January 5th. Although they did not win the one they hosted this month, they wanted to thank Wally Baker, who provided fine ice for the competition, and Bud Perry, Keith Robinson and Sid Morrell for their invaluable efforts in the success of the event. In addition, they appreciated the workers in the kitchen, the bar, and sandwich and dessert donations. Also, best wishes for the speedy recovery of Lynn Loucks.

Kathy Norg took her team, Joan McKinnon, Kathy Killick and Penny Charlebois, to the Ladies Curling Association competition in Ottawa, winning her first match with the top score. Although the folks lost their second game, their total score was high enough to have them finish just out of the money, behind foursomes from Russell, Cornwall and Navy. Well done, ladies.

Susan MacIntosh hosted a two-person bonspiel last Sunday. In the finals, Mahlon Locke and Kathy Killick defeated Bill Simmonds and Greta McGann. In “B” division, Glenn Cougler and Allan Harriman won, over the cousins John and John Toonders, while the “A” level winners were Penny Charlebois and Joan MacKinnon, defeating Fred “Boomer” Langlois and Keith Robinson.

On Tuesday, Morrisburg’s annual Ladies’ Invitational Bonspiel featured 12 teams from Eastern Ontario in some very tight matches. Rita Kilpatrick from Brockville won the early draw, over Lynne Stacey from Navan. In the second draw, Greta McGann from Morrisburg finished in first place, ahead of Elaine Pye from Lancaster. There was great competition on the part of all teams competing.

Making the day possible were our fine ice technician, Wally Baker, assisted by “Boomer” and Ron Brinston. Wally felt the ice was “dished”, and spent hours after the event scraping the ice to level if for future matches. Thanks are also needed for our bar tenders, kitchen staff, and Jack Barkley, who kept records of the matches, and made careful decisions about who would be competitors in the second round. Alice Thompson, who has organized this event for the past twenty years, was happy with the results and was home by six p.m. after the event.
