The Tuesday night men have announced their winner in the draw for the Calvert trophy. Congratulations to Larry Cooper, Al Harriman, Shawn Lapier and Rick Astley. Competition for the Pat Lid Trophy is now underway.

The senior men’s last draw was won by Jack Barkley, Len Bellamy, Chuck Irvine and Ron Brinston. Well done, fellows.

Last Wednesday three teams of our senior men hosted squads from Winchester in a friendly bonspiel. Our boys took care of the ice, the food, the kitchen, and the bar. We’ll make a return visit to Winchester on March 1.

Jack Barkley, Peter Byvelds, Jim Adams and John Gove lost their match, as did Andy Patenaude, Al Harriman, Bud Perry and Mike Horton, although Winchester stole it from them on the last end with a lucky shot. Our only win came from the Sam Locke quartet, with Arnold Barkley, Paul Gove and Mike Legault helping to finish off their victims. Those preparing food worked overly hard, as the Thursday morning curlers were able to enjoy sandwiches, soup, and even some delicious cake. Thanks, fellows. Good luck in Winchester.

Last week, our club competed in the Sullivan Cup, another of the annual two-team competitions. Dave King, Rick Mackenzie, “Boomer” Langlois and Rick Astley played well, but didn’t make it to the championship round. Our other quartet, Peter Zeran, Maurice Kolff, Larry Ware and Don McMillan won their second match and played in the “B” final after the banquet. It was a close game, but Winchester won the “B” championship. Well done folks.

The senior men’s last Parnell competition of the season was held at Lancaster on Friday. Lancaster has only two sheets of ice, so the four clubs are allowed one team each for the competition. Accordingly, on Tuesday afternoon at our club, Peter Zeran, John Gove, Earl Jeacle and Larry Ware faced off against Dave King, Maurice Kolff, Rick Mackenzie and Doug Jarvis. The Zeran rink was victorious and travelled to Lancaster for the final battle of the season. Our curlers dropped their first match to Lancaster, and had a tight game with Cornwall, the eventual champions, losing by only one point. Well done, fellows.

We had a little rockers team in the Little Big Four Bonspiel in Russell on Sunday. Metcalfe, Winchester and Russell were the other participants. Our folks defeated Russell and Winchester to make it to the “A” final. They played the other Winchester quartet in the final, but lost to them 5-4 on the last rock. Congratulations to Rhiannon Beckstead, Alexis Grenkie, Debbie Milewski and Hanna Gibbons. You made us all proud, ladies.

Finally, the Hughie Hutchinson Bonspiel, an all-day affair, is on at the club today, and we’ll have the results next week
