Last Wednesday Glenn Cougler hosted another successful stick bonspiel here. Former champs from several clubs attended, but were unable to repeat.

Teams from Kemptville and Winchester split their games, while a Winchester foursome, with Dave King throwing skipstones and Arnold Barkley as vice, beat Cornwall. They lost to Russell, while our two local quartets, Andy Patenaude, Neil Williams, Bud Perry and Jamie Gilboard defeated Cornwall, but lost to Russell. Mahlon Locke, Mike Lemaire, Chuck Irvine and Kent Dawley defeated Kemptville’s, Cunningham, but lost their game against Prescott. Russell had only one entry, but they won both matches and got their names inscribed on the champion’s plaque. Congratulations to Gislain and Helen Legace, Lorraine Robinson and Sylvia Walton.

By the way, apologies to Bud Perry, who was one of the members of Morrisburg’s winning team in Cornwall.      Recently, the Masters men’s qualifiers were held at the club. Advancing to the Provincial final at Brighton from the “A” side were Bruce Delaney from Russell and Ivan Suddergaard from the Cattaraqui Golf and Country Club in Kingston, and from the “B” Richard Davis from Carleton Heights and Stuart McKay from the Glengarry Curling Club in Alexandria.

Last Saturday and Sunday the Masters Women’s District 2 Challenge Games were held here. Special thanks to Sue McIntosh and her committee, who prepared things in the kitchen, served lunch, and cleaned up afterwards.  Eight teams from eastern Ontario competed, and after curling was over on Saturday, two finalists for the championship match and the consolation final were declared. On Sunday Granite and Manotick competed in the consolation final, with Manotick winning 8-6. In the championship final, Buckingham’s Hewitt defeated Kish from Kemptville 9-5. We’ll get the results for the Provincial championship for men and women when they are available in February.
