One of our mixed teams attended Navan’s 222 bonspiel last week. Keith Robinson, Alice Thompson, Fred “Boomer” Langlotz and Nelda Hickman entered. Navan had trouble filling the sheets at their bonspiel and had to put in two local teams. Unfortunately they were very very good. Our folks played them and lost the first match. After a tasty lunch, with special attention to their lemon meringue pie, our people played the other local foursome and came close, but dropped that one as well, 4-2.

The senior men had visitors from Winchester here on the same day. Our three teams were Andy Patenaude, Al Harriman, Paul Dobry, and Kent Dawley, Don McMillan, Neil Williams, Larry Ware and Jim Adams, as well as Sid Morrell, Rick MacKenzie, Maurice Kolff and John Gove. Sid’s team came up against a very good quartet and dropped a close one, but our other foursomes emerged victorious, All enjoyed a very good lunch, a few stories, and a promise to return to Winchester on the 23rd for a rematch.

On Saturday Greta McGann was in Manotick in an OLC competition. She had her regular competitive team with her: Joan McKinnon, Kathy Killick and Penny Charlebois. This was another Ladies’ Curling Association competition, with top-notch groups entered. Our ladies won their first match against a team from Metcalfe, and tied their second one, against Granite. Ties are not allowed, so they threw skips’ stones to the button. The Granite rock was a bit closer, so that ended Morrisburg’s competition. They enjoyed their two matches, and the event in general.

Sunday saw Susan McIntosh hosting another of her two-person bonspiels. These are always competitive, and are a terrific fundraiser for the club. We thank Susan for organizing these and for taking the time and effort to pull them off. She reports that there were two new folks involved, and they did very well. Susan thanks all the curlers for their great participation and for provided a delicious pot luck luncheon. As always, there were three divisions. In the “C” division, John Gove and Pete Zeran defeated Linda Murphy and Gail Lafreniere, in the “B” division Jay MacGilvray and Donna MacTrumble won out over Crystal and Craig Belanger, and in “A: division, the battle of the undefeated teams, Don McMillan and Keith Robinson beat Denis Thibeault and Glen Cougler. Another great day, with more to come next season, Susan promises.

We end on a sad note this time. A long-time member of the curling club and a good friend passed away last week. Wayne Pulfer died on Thursday. He was an energetic and enthusiastic curler, a positive presence, and an always-willing-to-help member of the club. Wayne was also very active in the community, lending time and effort to several local organizations. There will be a gathering in Wayne’s memory at the Iroquois Golf Club on Saturday March 12 from 2-4 p.m. We will miss him.
