On Friday two teams of our senior men were in Prescott to play in the third Parnell competition this year. Peter Zeran, Mahlon and Sam Locke and Bud Perry, who won the Cornwall version of the event, were allowed a bye as one of our reps. Jack Barkley, Dave King, Doug Jarvis and Rick MacKenzie defeated Don McMillan, Andy Patenaude, Keith Robinson and Peter Byvelds to also play in the Parnell.

In the morning matches, Jack’s team defeated Lancaster handily and played a Cornwall foursome in the p.m. Peter’s team defeated a Cornwall crew, but it took an extra end, and stealing rocks in the last three ends to seal the victory. In the afternoon, they fought hard against Lancaster, but lost the match. However, Jack’s fellows won their afternoon duel against Cornwall to take the Parnell trophy. That’s two wins for the smallest, by numbers, of the four clubs.

Three teams of our senior men were in Brockville for a friendly bonspiel on Friday. They were Andy Patenaude, Neil Williams, Larry Ware and Bill Simmons, Don MacMillan, Jacques Marquis, Pete Byvelds and Eric Johnson, as well as Raymond Benoit, Al Harriman, Earl Jeacle and John Gove. Andy’s team won their match. Did I mention that Brockville has a very fine dining room? The white tablecloths, scalloped potatoes and other great items on the menu were a little different from the soup and sandwiches teams generally get in these friendlies. By the way, next week the Brockville club will make a return visit to Morrisburg.

We had two ladies teams in Kemptville for a bonspiel on Wednesday. Alice Thompson, Linda Hickman, Janie Connolly and Gail Lafreniere dropped their first match to the eventual champions on the day, from Perth. In the afternoon, after a tasty lunch, Alice’s team went out on the ice again, and lost a close match to a foursome from Cornwall. Our other curlers were Greta McGann, Joan McKinnon, Kathy Killick and Penny Charlebois. They won their morning game against an R.A. quartet, but lost in the afternoon to the champion Perth team.

On Thursday, Alice Thompson was in Navan for their women’s invitational bonspiel. Betty Locke, Sharon Van Allen and Nelda Hickman were her team members, and they played two teams from Metcalfe. The games were very close, but the Metcalfe groups won out. The ladies had a pleasant day, the food at lunchtime was very good, and the driving was excellent.

Greta McGann, Joan McKinnon, Penny Charlebois and Patsy Casselman were in Prescott last week for that club’s annual Robbie Burns bonspiel. Our curlers wore kilts and were piped onto the ice. Our ladies won both of their matches, but finished a few points behind the eventual winners. Though haggis wasn’t served, “Scottish egg” was on the menu, and our team was quite happy with their day.

Our bantams were in Kemptville for a bonspiel over the weekend, and we’ll get the results soon.
