Our Thursday morning curlers had their wind-up competition and banquet this week. The champions for this draw were Dave King, Rick McKenzie, Lynn Loucks and Jim Casselman. After the games, organized by coordinator Sharon Van Allen, the curlers repaired to the lounge, where they joined their guests for the closing banquet, prepared by Greta McGann and her committee. Turkey, ham and egg salad, as well as pickles and other additions to the meal, finishing up with several kinds of pie, were the result. It was a delicious meal, and a fine way to conclude the first draw. Our thanks to the volunteers for helping with the ice, serving the meal, and cleaning up afterwards, as well as tending bar. We were very well looked after. Curling for all leagues starts up again on the first full week in January.

Play in the Tuesday ladies league, their Wednesday night matches, and the Friday night mixed league have not declared champions, and will pick up again in January.

Recently, our senior men completed the second draw, and the champions were Raymond Benoit, Neil Williams, Bud Perry and Wayne Pulfer. Well done, fellows. Curling in the draw for the Kincaid Trophy has already begun.

Congratulations to our bantams, who hosted several other teams in their first bonspiel of the year. They played well, they practice on Thursday nights, and will be in more bonspiels in the new year.

Donna and Jeff Trumble are looking after the twelve 6-8 year-old little rockers, and Mahlon Locke is currently in charge of the 8-12 year-olds. We wish both groups well for their bonspiel in Prescott January 10th.

The ladies will be hosting the Broder Cup in the middle of January. Our two teams will try to defeat Metcalfe, Russell and Winchester. It should be a good competition, and we’ll have the results for these and other competitions after the events are completed.

Speaking of which, the men play in their second Parnell competition, with two teams this time, in January.

Also, the men’s Invitational, the Bernie Brunt is on, and several teams will be out at other clubs for their invitationals.

Don’t forget Susan’s second two-person bonspiel Sunday, January 3rd. It looks full, but you might try putting your name down in case someone drops out.

Finally, our best wishes to a couple of our curlers who are going through some serious health problems. We wish them well in their recovery, and hope to see them back to the club early in the new year.

That’s it until 2016!
